Status of Aviation Trail sites regarding visitors during the COVID-19 precautions - Updated: Apr 21, 2021


The Wright-Dunbar/Aviation Trail Visitor Center indoor facilities are open as of April 21, 2021 with modified days and hours. See below.


Most of the Aviation Trail sites are now open, with COVID precautions in place, and some with limited hours. Since conditions at each venue can change quickly, it is suggested that visitors check each site's current status by using the TRAIL SITES page on this website to find the contact information (website and phone) of each respective site.


OPEN: Site #’s 1a, 1b, and 1c: Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center and Aviation Trail Visitor Center, Aviation Trail Parachute Museum and the Wright Cycle Company: Indoor facilities are open as of April 21, 2021, with special hours of 10 AM to 4 PM, Wednesday through Sunday. Outdoor spaces are also open. The park phone number is (937) 225-7705 Site #’s 3a, and 3c: Wright Brothers Memorial, and Huffman Prairie Flying Field - All outdoor space at the Wright Brother Memorial and Huffman Prairie Flying Field is open to the public.

Site #’s 4, and 7: Carillon Historical Park, Wright Brothers National Museum, and Hawthorn Hill (all operated by Dayton History) - Dayton History's Carillon Historical Park, the Carillon Brewing Company and Culp’s Cafe are open with normal hours of operation and regular admission prices in effect. Site # 5: National Museum of the United States Air Force™ - is open to the public. Site # 6:National Aviation Hall of Fame is open, with the same hours as The National Museum of the USAF. *Site # 8: Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum - the following statement from Woodland: Dear Woodland Families and Friends, As the Coronavirus (COVID -19) continues to impact our local area, state and country; Woodland Cemetery would like to update you on our Preparedness Plans. We are assessing as well as taking the necessary steps to avoid potential disruptions of services to those we assist. As always, our focus is the safety and well-being of our clients, employees and the community we serve. Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum is open and operating. We realize our community may have many questions at this time of uncertainty. We are sensitive to the needs and feelings of our fellow Daytonians. We are here for you. For details, see the WACO website at https://www.wacoairmuseum.org Site # 12: Armstrong Air & Space Museum - The Armstrong Air & Space Museum is open Thursday through Sunday from 10AM - 4PM continuously. State guidelines still require face coverings while in public places, this includes the museum. https://www.armstrongmuseum.org Site # 13: Champaign Aviation Museum - open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM.

In accordance with CDC recommendations, we ask that all visitors wear masks. This is for the safety of our visitors, staff, and volunteers. We will not be offering docent led tours at this time and ask that all visitors practice proper social distancing. We also ask that you postpone your visit if you are experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms or have been in contact with someone sick within 14 days of your planned visit. All ride participants and visitors are required to provide and wear face masks/coverings at all times. To reduce surface contact, we are not providing loaner headsets to ride participants. Site # 17: Sinclair National UAS Training and Certification Center - open on standard college hours and the "Wilbear" stamp is available in the lobby for visitors to self-stamp.

Site #3b, the Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center building remains closed

Site # 9: Wright B Flyer: This announcement from Wright B Flyer - "As of 06/30/2020 the Wright “B” Flyer, Inc. museum and hangar will remain closed for the foreseeable future due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic. As has always been the case, the safety of our visitors and volunteer staff are of the utmost importance to us at the Wright “B” Flyer, Inc. And, although we would really like to reopen our facility to the general public, we do not believe that we can assure the safety of either visitors or staff from the dangers of the coronavirus. Also, orientation flights in the Wright-B-Flyer lookalike are not possible at this time because the seat separation distance is less than 6 feet. Stay safe, stay healthy". This posting will be updated as changes are received.

Parking:

From W. Third St., turn south on Williams St and then turn left on Fourth St. Go 1/2 block and turn left into the Visitor Center parking area.

Travel Note - Third St. Bridge closure:

The Third Street Bridge will be CLOSED beginning Jan. 1, 2020 until approximately Oct. 2021. Visitors can use the Fifth St. Bridge or the Salem Ave. Bridge as detours from downtown Dayton. A file with more detailed instructions for visitors traveling from the north or south via I-75, or from the east and west via US35 can be downloaded by CLICKING HERE.
