Henry Ford, The Aviator

Thursday, November 17, 2022, we will have our second lecture of the 2022-23 WACO Aviation Lecture Series with a presentation on Henry Ford’s aviation endeavors at 7 pm.

Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company had a surprising impact on early aviation. A number of aviation “firsts” can be attributed to Mr. Ford and his company. Beyond the famous Ford Tri-Motor, Ford’s interest and involvement in aviation advanced the industry from its early days through WWII. This talk will explore how the automotive pioneer and his company’s activities and production impacted early aviation. You may be surprised just how much of an aviation trailblazer Ford really was!

Our presenter, Steven Stanford is a Henry Ford scholar who has published numerous programs and articles about Mr. Ford. He is the editor of The Ford Legend, a 24-page newsletter published three times each year by the Henry Ford Heritage Association.

Steven was part of the team that worked with the MotorCities National Heritage Area in 2013 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Henry Ford’s birth. He also worked as a docent at the Ford Piquette Museum and conducted group tours at the Henry Ford Museum. He delivered dozens of Ford talks to varied audiences throughout Michigan and conducted coach tours of Ford sites. Steve and his wife retired to Ohio in 2016 and reside in Piqua.

Steven now works as an associate at the WACO Air Museum and Learning Center in Troy, Ohio. WACO was the number one producer of airplanes in the United States during the 1920s and 1930s. WACO’s history is intertwined with the Ford Motor Company in several ways as you will discover during his talk.

All aviation lectures are free and open to the public and are held in the Willis Wing of the WACO Air Museum at 1865 South County Road 25A in Troy, OH. Programs are scheduled to last one hour, beginning at 7 p.m., with questions to follow. Doors will open at 6:30. Donations to the WACO Air Museum are gratefully accepted. All lectures are sponsored in part by Collins Wheels and Brakes. For questions, please call 937-335-9226 or visit www.wacoairmuseum.org.
