ATI's Celebration of the 112th Anniversary of FIRST POWERED FLIGHT in 1903 honoring the Wright Brothers was held on December 17, 2015 at Dayton History's Carillon Park. 

New this year:

The celebration was held at Dayton History’s Carillon Park in the Kettering Family Education Center with seasonal drinks, food and entertainment. Stories to tell and share followed by holiday dessert treats and music.

"Saving Airplanes and Telling their Stories"

The featured speaker at the event is Greg Herrick, president of the Aviation Foundation of America. His Golden Wings Flying Museum has more than 35 vintage aircraft, one of the largest holdings of its type in the U.S. He specializes in acquisition and restoration of airplanes from the Golden Age of aviation. Greg is also involved with airport preservation projects and educational programs.

The Featured Program:

 

His interest in vintage aircraft started early, while growing up in Ottumwa, Iowa, where headquarters for the Antique Airplane Association is located, and he continues to follow his passion for rare and exotic aircraft today. He will be at the December 17 Aviation Trail event to share his love of aviation history and to help celebrate the 112th Anniversary of the first powered flight.

"A very casual evening with Two Ladies and Greg"

A modern 1903 old-fashioned casual holiday event sure to delight your pallet and please your fancy.

The scene: The Atrium Lobby at dinner (party) time.

 

The theme and the cast: Turn-of-the-century conversations with:

 

• Katharine “Kate” Wright: Supporter of the brothers and their beloved “little sister” who insisted on her right to exercise powers within her legitimate spheres—the home and school—as she proved to be a demanding taskmaster.

 

 • Carrie Grumbach: The young 17-year-old housekeeper and cook for the Wright family who would continue in her position for the next 45 years. She has approved this evenings dinning fare.

 

• Greg Herrick: A daring young man from up north with “Golden Wings” will regale us with exciting tales of his airborne adventures with his vast collection of amazing historic flying machines.

 

Act #1: The Repast: 6:30-7:45 p.m. The Carillon Park’s Brewery will offer in the lobby hot mulled wine and cider to warm your body from the cold winter chills. Even perhaps, a sampling of their now famous brews. The menu: To choose at your leisure: Sister Katharine’s Recipe Devilled Eggs Saratoga Potato Chips with Light Sour Cream Dip Fresh Vegetables with Dip Carved Honey Glazed Ham Carved Honey Turkey with Cranberry sauce Rolls and Focaccia Bread served with butter Fresh Fruit Display: Pickles, grapes, nuts, raisins Assorted Fresh Fruit: Strawberries, Pineapple, Oranges, and more!

 

Act #2: The Program 8:00 p.m. A few relaxing moments in the Atrium as we introduce, toast, brag about, and acknowledge well-deserved achievements and the personalities involved. We’ll have a toast to the brothers Wright, purveyors of bicycles and successful experimenters of various heaver-than-air contraptions and soon to become internationally famous. Followed by a presentation of extraordinary vision by our renowned aviator and guest speaker Greg Herrick.

 

Act #3: The Grand Finale! 8:30-10:00 p.m. Holiday musical sounds of good cheer to sooth the soul. Gourmet deserts and drinks to delight the tongue. Wright Family favorite dessert choices. Christmas Cake, Pecan Tarts, Tiramisu Creme Brulee, Fresh Fruit Tart.

 

 

 

 

 

The Carillon Gift Shop will remain open until 8:00 p.m. for your last minute shopping pleasure. Each guest will receive, upon departure into the night, a commemorative gift for the holidays.
