August 19th Celebration, 2016
The celebration began with the press conference at 1:00PM at the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. ATI spokesperson Steve Brown (above) highlighted the reason for the acquisition and discussed some of the development plans for the Pekin Theater. Guests were taken on a tour of the newly acquired Peking Theatre Building, and the Fish Market Building, just east of the Aviation Heritage building in the Hoover Block of West Third Street.
Dayton, OH – The Aviation Trail, Inc. hosted a celebration on August 19th, 2016 to commemorate the birthdays of Orville and Katharine Wright and mark National Aviation Day. The event also included a brief press conference announcing the Aviation Trail acquisition of the historic Pekin Theater building on West Third Street and plans to develop the facility into an aviation educational site.

Also in the conference room, guests were treated to a hands-on demonstration of the assembly of wing struts for a 1903 Wright Flyer. The wooden pieces were placed in a form to hold them in position and glued into place. The example spars will be used in the construction of a replica aircraft. In the photo at the right, Aviation Trail's Jim Beisner (in the yellow shirt) instructs on the manufactuing method.
The Pekin Theatre is the building on the far left, and the Fish Market is the smaller building to its right.
WDTN TV2 news photographer Christopher Smith was present to record the event, and a the story appeared on the evening news.
After the tour, guests returned to the conference center to to enjoy ice cream and cake in celebration of Orville and Katherine's birthdays, and stayed to enjoy the displays in the Visitor Center, and the Parachute Museum.
