Armstrong Event
The Armstrong Air & Space Museum will be hosting a special talk presented by Robert Fish of the USS Hornet - Sea, Air, and Space Museum based in Alameda, California. Fish will be presenting on Friday, May 27, at 2:00 PM in the museum's STEM Inspiration Center and will be discussing the Apollo 11 splashdown and recovery.
Commissioned during WWII, the USS Hornet was an Essex-class naval vessel best known for its use during the recovery operation of Apollo 11. After its service to the US Navy, the ship was repurposed into a museum, where guests can learn more about the ship's history and its participation in the Apollo 11 recovery. Robert Fish is a member of the board of trustees for the museum and has written a book on the Hornet and the NASA recovery operation.
