Talk & Tour - Moon Bases
Thursday, October 16, 2025 ⋅ 2:00 – 4:00pm:
Armstrong Air & Space Museum • 500 Apollo Dr, Wapakoneta, OH 45895, USA

In 1959, the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force held full authority over the nation's space program, and they had bold plans. One of the most ambitious? Building a military base on the Moon. This Cold War-era project, part of a real proposal known as "Project Horizon," aimed to establish a permanent American presence on the lunar surface. Though ultimately scrapped, the vision laid the groundwork for future exploration.
In this engaging program, the Museum Educator will share the story of this extraordinary mission: what it entailed, why it was proposed, and why it was abandoned. You’ll also explore a compelling question—could lunar bases become a reality in our lifetime?
Presentation begins at 2:00 PM in the STEM Inspiration Center
Guided museum tour begins at 3:00 PM, led by the Museum Educator
No RSVP is required. Program and tour are included with general admission, which must be paid at the entrance.
