June 13 @ 10:30 am - 3:00 pm at Tri-State Warbird Museum:

The Panel Discussion : The Fall of the U-2 and Francis Gary Powers & Movie Viewing

One of the most interesting stories of the Cold War is the shootdown of Francis Gary Powers while flying a U-2 spy mission over the USSR on May 1,1960. The Soviets at once classified the details and hid them in the Military Archives for over 40 years. Where and how did it really occur? And what happened afterward? Join us for a panel discussion on the facts. What was the mission? Where did the U-2 fly and how was an SA-2 missile launched against it? How did the warhead detonate, and U-2 fall to earth?

How was Gary Powers taken prisoner, and what was the aftermath? And what misinformation has clouded the true story?

Our panel members are author and historian Gary Powers Jr, author and researchers Joe Matis and Pranay Bhardwaj. The moderator is Don Gray who has moderated past TSWM Lecture Series panels.  Please join our discussion as we bring several years of research and the complete story of the U-2 shootdown to light.
