219 N Paul Laurence Dunbar St, Dayton, OH 45402-6502, United States
Ninety years ago, Paul Laurence Dunbar’s home became the first state-owned house museum dedicated to an African

American. To mark this milestone, we invite you to a special birthday celebration on Saturday, June 27. Fresh from a $700,000 renovation funded by the Saving America's Treasures grant program, the historic site will be open for tours featuring special guests and living history performances. Poets, musicians, and actors will bring Paul, Alice, and Matilda Dunbar to life, immersing visitors in their remarkable story.
Join us for music and poetry readings on the lawn, craft a birthday card for Dunbar, and help commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Ohio legislation that established this landmark museum. Enjoy delicious summer treats, tour Dunbar’s historic home, and experience the vibrant reenactments that make the celebration truly memorable. Whether you are rediscovering the story or exploring it for the first time, don’t miss this free event, open to all.
