DAYTON, OH – Woodland Cemetery and Woodland Arboretum Foundation announce that Tony Huffman has resigned from both boards, Robert Laing has resigned from the Arboretum Foundation board and Andy Lehman has joined both boards effective January 1, 2022. Vail Miller, Jr. has been named Chairman of the Cemetery and Arboretum Foundation boards, replacing Tony Huffman, who served as Chairman of both boards since 2019 and as a trustee since 2003.
“My 18 years as a Trustee and President of the Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum, was an incredible experience and honor,” stated Tony Huffman. “During my tenure on the board, I developed not only a high appreciation for the history the cemetery tells of our community, but also the natural beauty of its arboretum. I am especially proud of the fact, that we developed a plan to restore the historic chapel and its priceless Tiffany windows and developed a fund-raising strategy to support this initiative and execute it. The historic chapel, administrative building and entrance gates are well on their way to completion by year’s end. I am pleased that Mr. Vail Miller, Jr. is following me as the new President of the Trustees. Vail’s commitment to our community speaks for itself and he will add his own creative and professional abilities to the future growth of Woodland.”
Newly appointed Chair Vail Miller Jr. stated, “As a Cemetery Trustee for over 19 years, Mr. Huffman has contributed his time and talent to the great benefit of Woodland and we can’t thank him enough for all that he has done and continues to do for this institution and the Dayton community. Mr. Laing’s 31 years of dedicated service to Woodland’s mission is remarkable, his input will be missed but his influence continues. I am pleased to have Andy Lehman join Woodland’s board. Andy is a tremendous leader who expands the knowledge, talent and commitment of our organization.”
Mr. Lehman joins the boards that oversee Woodland Cemetery’s and Woodland Arboretum’s finances, policies and procedures, strategic planning, and community outreach.
The staff and boards of Woodland Cemetery and Woodland Arboretum Foundation are happy to welcome Andy Lehman, Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President of Kettering Health. An active member of the community, Andy has proudly served on a number of boards. “Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum is a beautiful historic landmark that has been the center of our community for over 180 years. I’m honored to serve and assist their legacy of success” said Mr. Lehman. Mr. Lehman will join, Vail Miller, Jr., Lee Carpenter, Robert Berner, and Sean O’Regan as Cemetery Trustees.

Woodland Cemetery sits in the heart of downtown Dayton on over 200 verdant acres of rolling hills with over 3,000 trees on the property. This historic cemetery, founded in 1841, welcomes thousands of visitors who tour the grounds each year to visit the grave sites of inventors of powered flight, Wilbur and Orville Wright; poet Paul Laurence Dunbar; Gov. James M. Cox, founder of Cox Media and three-term governor of Ohio; writer Erma Bombeck; inventor Charles F. Kettering; and entrepreneurs John H. Patterson (NCR); George P. Huffman (Huffy Bicycles); and George Mead (Mead Paper Co.).

Woodland Arboretum Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation currently involved in a capital campaign to raise funds for the restoration of the Cemetery’s Romanesque Chapel, Administration Building and Gateway, which are on the National Register of Historic Places.
